If you’re even the slightest bit tech savvy, you most likely have some form of social media. Or, if you have teenage kids you need to keep tabs on, you also probably have social media. And this is understandable as most things now are going viral before they are shown on or talked about in the news.
Twitter, our president’s favorite form of social media to figuratively drop bombs, is the newest victim to hackers in a much stealthier way then just getting someone’s credentials and posting on their behalf. Your business may use Twitter as a social media platform, which means you need to be educated on this movement.
The newest trend is editing usernames by one small character so that the tweet looks like it is coming from someone official or important. SO, under the false pretenses of the originator of the tweet, one is more inclined to click the link and see just what exactly he/she is talking about.
The issue here is that the usernames look so much alike, it is nearly impossible to spot the difference unless you are purposely examining it because you were instructed to.
To give an example look at the URLs below. All look like they are pointing to the same tweet because the status is the same, the username has some character that is off, which will then redirect you to spam, incorrect information, or worse, distribute malware.

Be very cautious what you’re clicking on online, and have the latest version of your virus protection installed on your computer! And, as always, if you need any help head on over to www.neqterlabs.com for some useful tips.
